New lighting will be seen throughout Coos Bay beginning in May. The City of Coos Bay has contracted with Ameresco and Christenson Electric to upgrade the over one thousand streetlights to LED. The city’s lighting costs $234-thousand dollars on powering streetlights per year. With the switch to LED, significant annual savings will be used to pay for the investment. The switch will also do a better job of lighting areas and are more directional. The LEDs will provide longer life than regular lights. The project will begin in May and conclude in early August.
